Great Promise for American Indians
Matthew Davila is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota. He is active in his community, serves on the Austin Powwow committee and is deeply interested in Native American issues. He also works as a cultural advisor for the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
Robert Bass joined the Great Promise staff in 2013 and was appointed Program Director in 2016. Robert has also worked closely with the AISD American Indian Education Program to develop cultural programs for youth and organized numerous public presentations. He has been involved with the Austin Powwow since the very beginning.
Nan Blassingame is the Program Director for Great Promise. She joined the Great Promise staff in September 2015 as the Volunteer Coordinator. Nan has been involved in the organization since 2004 conducting school and public presentations and serves on the Austin Powwow committee. Nan is Southern Cheyenne and a member of the Cheyenne/Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma. She has been involved with powwows and traditional culture her entire life and is an accomplished Jingle dancer. She also teaches traditional crafts and specializes in making dance regalia.
Educational Outreach Coordinator
Jessica Scott has worked as a teacher for nine years in Washington, D.C., Australia, and Austin. Prior to teaching, she was an associate director of marketing at a nonprofit firm in Washington. She holds a Master’s of Education Degree from George Washington University and a double BA in Communications and American History from the University of North Carolina. She has worked with Great Promise since August of 2014 and has been a fan and supporter of the Austin Powwow since moving to the capital city.
